Senior Infrastructure Security Engineer at MatterLabs

Remote 🌍 Work from Anywhere Full time Senior Posted

Job Description

About Matter Labs

Matter Labs builds zkSync - a credibly neutral, fully open source scaling stack and network on top of Ethereum using zero-knowledge proofs to scale Ethereum without compromising security or decentralization. Backed by substantial funding and supported by a global community, Matter Labs focuses on advanced cryptography and secure, scalable blockchain infrastructure.

Role Summary

We are hiring a Senior Infrastructure Security Engineer to secure the infrastructure that powers zkSync. You will work across cloud, application, and systems layers to design and implement defenses, build detection and response capabilities, review Infrastructure as Code, and collaborate closely with DevOps, engineering, and protocol security teams. This role fits engineers who enjoy solving complex technical security challenges in high-impact, production environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure and cloud security - Design and implement secure infrastructure, including hardening cloud environments, containers, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Detection and response - Build detection and monitoring systems such as SIEM and alerting pipelines to enable early threat detection and effective incident response.
  • Secure systems design - Perform architecture reviews, identify risks, and partner with engineers on secure system upgrades and deployments.
  • Infrastructure as Code - Review and contribute to Terraform, Ansible, or similar IaC to ensure security is embedded from the ground up.
  • Security reviews and remediation - Conduct threat modeling, internal audits, vulnerability remediation, and hands-on fixes across the stack.
  • Cross-team collaboration - Work with Protocol Security, DevOps, and Product Engineering to align on shared security goals and lifecycle coverage.
  • Optional - on-chain infra anomaly detection - Implement tools that surface unusual infrastructure-level activity informed by on-chain signals.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven infrastructure security background with hands-on experience securing cloud-native environments (AWS, GCP), Kubernetes, containers, and CI/CD.
  • Deep technical fluency in threat modeling, incident response, vulnerability management, and systems architecture.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code, secrets management, and security automation tooling.
  • Bias for action - able to drive security work to delivery in ambiguous, fast-paced contexts.
  • Excellent collaborator and communicator - able to translate complex security concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Web3 awareness is a plus - familiarity with decentralized infrastructure, Ethereum, or ZK-related tech is beneficial.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience with on-chain anomaly detection or using blockchain signals for infrastructure security.
  • Prior work securing open source or decentralized infrastructure.

Work Location and Model

This role is Global Remote. Matter Labs is remote-first and supports working from many timezones with optional travel for team or industry events.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation and equity or token packages.
  • Premium health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 16 weeks of parental leave.
  • Flexible paid time off and company closure weeks 1-2x per year.
  • $2000 USD work equipment stipend and $300 USD monthly co-working allowance.
  • $500 USD learning and development stipend and a 401(k) plan for US employees where applicable.
