Role overview
We are seeking a Mail Systems Engineer to join the Imunify Email team. You will work on large-scale mail infrastructure, improving mail deliverability and protection, and automating production workflows. This role requires deep Postfix or Exim expertise, strong Linux skills, and experience running and tuning mail clusters and SMTP systems. The position is fully remote and can be performed from anywhere worldwide.
Key responsibilities
- Operate and optimise large-scale mail clusters and SMTP infrastructures.
- Design and implement solutions for spam detection, outbound traffic hygiene, and IP reputation preservation.
- Develop and maintain tools and automations for monitoring CVEs, applying patches, and validating mail system behaviour.
- Build and maintain reliable, performant mail processing pipelines and SQL-backed data workflows.
- Collaborate with product, security, and engineering teams to deploy and support production services.
- Create and maintain documentation, tests, and runbooks for mail operations and incident response.
Requirements
- Expert-level experience with Postfix or Exim and deep SMTP protocol knowledge.
- Strong proficiency with GNU/Linux systems and shell scripting.
- Experience operating large-scale clusters and understanding of mail deliverability and reputation mechanics.
- Solid SQL skills for designing and optimising data processing queries.
- 3+ years of relevant professional experience, with strong problem solving and communication skills.
- English proficiency at upper-intermediate level or higher.
Nice to have
- Scripting experience in Python, Bash, or Perl for automation and tooling.
- Familiarity with SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and mail security standards.
- Experience with containerisation or cloud deployments related to mail systems.
- Knowledge of C or low-level system integration for advanced debugging.
