Overview
About the role
We are seeking a data driven Scheduling Optimization Engineer to design and operate large scale scheduling and resource allocation models that balance mathematical rigor with practical feasibility. You will build optimization solutions that increase efficiency, reduce cost, and ensure compliance with operational and regulatory rules, while partnering closely with operations, planning, and technology teams.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and maintain advanced optimization models for large scale scheduling problems using integer programming, constraint programming, heuristics, and metaheuristics.
- Build models that incorporate event calendars, service times, passenger volumes, destinations, contractual rules, and regulatory constraints.
- Apply and integrate optimization solvers such as Gurobi, CPLEX, or OR-Tools to generate feasible, efficient schedules.
- Collaborate with operations, planning, and engineering teams to ensure model outputs match real world needs and constraints.
- Analyze results to identify cost savings, efficiency improvements, and compliance risks, then refine models to adapt to changing resource availability and demand patterns.
- Continuously iterate on models and tooling to improve robustness, runtime, and ease of use for nontechnical stakeholders.
Required qualifications and skills
- Advanced knowledge in optimization modeling, including integer programming and constraint programming, plus experience with heuristics and metaheuristics.
- Proven track record developing and maintaining large scale scheduling models in applied environments.
- Experience incorporating operational rules, contractual agreements, regulatory requirements, and business constraints into model formulations.
- Hands on experience with optimization solvers such as Gurobi, CPLEX, or OR-Tools.
- Proficiency in programming, ideally Python, Julia, or C++, for model development and integration.
- Strong data analysis skills to work with event calendars, service times, demand patterns, and related inputs.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with technical and non technical stakeholders and present modeling results and recommendations.
