Senior Software Engineer II

Kit is a 100% remote company building an email-first operating system for creators. We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer II to join the Builders team and help design, build, and maintain the core publishing platform and creator growth experiences. You will work across frontend and backend systems, contributing to the publishing tools creators use for onboarding, activation, and conversion.

The role

As a Senior Software Engineer II you will lead feature development, refactor legacy systems, drive technical standards, and ensure production reliability across Kit's publishing platform. You will collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering peers and participate in on-call rotations and mentoring activities.

What you'll do

• Dive into the codebase, ship production changes, and lead major feature work from ideation to launch.
• Architect scalable, maintainable frontend systems using React, JavaScript, and modern CSS frameworks.
• Partner with backend teams to design end-to-end systems and make strategic refactors to improve scalability.
• Drive adoption of frontend patterns, testing practices, and developer experience improvements.
• Build complex web components such as rich text editors and visual canvases, and steward the design system.
• Participate in mentorship, code reviews, and knowledge sharing across the engineering organization.

Qualifications

• Deep expertise in React, JavaScript, and modern CSS (experience with Tailwind is a plus).
• Experience with backend frameworks, preferably Ruby on Rails, or strong willingness to learn RoR.
• Proven ability to architect, ship, and maintain production web applications and design systems.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a distributed, remote-first environment and participate in core collaboration hours.

Nice to have

• Experience with email-safe HTML and CSS, publishing platforms, or the creator economy.
• Experience shipping user-facing AI features.
• Familiarity with frontend bundling and development tools, or experience with Ruby on Rails.

Compensation and benefits

Compensation Range: USD 181,000 (Level 4). Kit standardizes salaries by position. Additional compensation and benefits include profit sharing, equity, 401(k) with 5% match, health plan contributions, equipment and learning allowances, paid time off, parental leave, and other perks.

Working hours and location

We are fully remote with distributed teammates across the globe. The Builders team works mostly on East Coast time with core collaboration hours of 10:45am to 2pm Eastern Time. Flexibility is supported outside of these hours.
