Team - Infrastructure, Datastores

The Infrastructure organization supports the systems, services, and tooling that enable Coinbase engineers to design, develop, and operate services quickly, safely, securely, and reliably. The Datastores team owns OLTP databases and analytics and caching solutions - including MongoDB, RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, sharded SQL, ClickHouse, Redis and Memcached. The team builds and runs highly available, efficient, high-performance distributed-database services that serve millions of requests per second. The team advises product teams on the right database technology and provides fully paved solutions, and works on industry defining technology for Web3 needs.

What you will do

• Design, implement and operate Coinbase's distributed database technologies, including MongoDB, PostgreSQL, RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redis and Memcached.
• Drive improvements in scalability, reliability, performance and cost efficiency for our database systems.
• Influence technical direction by guiding senior engineers and leadership on database and storage choices, and collaborate with vendors in the database space.
• Write high quality, well tested code to meet customer needs and build tooling and services around databases.
• Maintain and troubleshoot production systems, participate in on-call rotations for engineering and operational support.
• Monitor industry trends and emerging database technologies to continuously enhance systems and processes.

Required qualifications

• At least 5 years of industry experience with a proven track record of building and operating scalable, fault tolerant, highly available distributed systems.
• In-depth, hands-on experience with large-scale database deployments in production environments.
• Practical experience with cloud and distributed databases, such as MongoDB, PostgreSQL, RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redis and Memcached.
• Strong understanding of distributed database architecture, performance tuning and reliability engineering.
• Backend service and tooling development experience in Golang, Java or Python.
• Excellent communication skills to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with crypto and onchain activity, including interacting with Ethereum addresses, ENS, dApps or other blockchain services.
• Experience with incident response, disaster recovery, and building highly available systems.
• Experience working at a company through rapid growth.

Pay Range - target annual salary for this position: 185,500 CAD. Full time offers also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits including medical, dental and vision. Candidates should be aware that each candidate may submit a maximum of four applications within any 30-day period.
