About the Role

Coinbase is on a mission to become an AI-Native company by 2028, transforming how we operate across all functions. As an AI Growth Lead in an individual contributor capacity, you will drive AI adoption across Coinbase by partnering with one or more AI Growth Pods - internal accelerators that work with non-engineering functions such as Finance, HR, Legal, Operations, Marketing, and Security to identify, prototype, and scale high-impact AI automation solutions.

As the AI Automation DRI (Directly Responsible Individual) for assigned pods, you will lead initiatives from ideation to initial implementation and productionalization, ensuring solutions deliver measurable ROI and enable broader AI adoption. This role combines strategic thinking, hands-on technical ability, and exceptional cross-functional collaboration.

What You Will Do

• Lead AI opportunity discovery - Partner with leaders and teams across the organization to deeply understand workflows, identify pain points, and uncover high-leverage AI automation opportunities. Translate complex business challenges into actionable AI use cases.
• Design and prototype AI solutions - Use advanced generative AI techniques, including large language models and agentic AI, to rapidly design, build, and iterate on functional prototypes, such as AI agents, custom copilots, and intelligent workflows. Write high-quality, well-tested code in Python and Golang to support these solutions.
• Deploy sustainable solutions - Work with cross-functional partners to evolve prototypes into scalable, secure, production-grade AI systems aligned with long-term goals.
• Act as an internal consultant and accelerator - Advise on AI capabilities, responsible AI usage, prompt engineering best practices, and strategic AI integration into operations. Mentor teammates on design principles, coding standards, and adoption of AI productivity tools.
• Drive adoption and enablement - Pilot solutions with functional teams, collect feedback, iterate on prototypes, and support adoption to ensure value realization and smooth transitions.
• Collaborate with core AI teams - Partner with central AI Platform and DevX teams to leverage infrastructure, contribute to shared knowledge, and ensure scalability and security.
• Ensure responsible AI - Work with Security, Legal, and Compliance to ensure AI solutions adhere to strict security, privacy, and ethical guidelines, particularly for sensitive data and high-risk workflows.
• Measure and communicate impact - Define success metrics, track ROI, and communicate value delivered to stakeholders.
• Stay ahead of the curve - Continuously research and experiment with emerging AI models, tools, and best practices to bring leading solutions to Coinbase.

What We're Looking For

Experience: 8+ years in software engineering or a highly analytical, operational, or technical role, with at least 1+ year focused on applied AI, generative AI, or intelligent automation.

Deep AI and automation expertise:

• Strong understanding of LLM capabilities, limitations, and architectures, such as RAG, agents, and fine-tuning concepts.
• Hands-on experience with AI tools and platforms, including enterprise LLMs (for example Gemini, Claude), no-code/low-code automation platforms, and agent frameworks such as LangChain or LangGraph. Python experience required.
• Proven ability to rapidly prototype and demonstrate working solutions. Background in AI/LLM infrastructure is a plus.

Strong software engineering skills:

• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services, with knowledge of microservices architecture.
• Ability to write high-quality, well-tested code that meets customer needs.
• Strong system design, coding, and debugging skills to improve reliability and scalability.

Exceptional business acumen:

• Ability to understand complex business processes and translate them into technical requirements and AI opportunities.
• ROI-driven mindset with experience quantifying business value from technology initiatives.
• Familiarity with financial services, crypto, or high-growth tech environments is a plus.

Consulting and influence skills:

• Outstanding written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain complex technical topics to non-technical audiences.
• Proven track record influencing stakeholders and driving adoption of new technologies in a matrixed organization.

Problem solving and agility: Highly analytical, comfortable with ambiguity and rapid iteration, and able to manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment.

Collaboration and risk awareness: Experience working cross-functionally with legal, security, compliance, and engineering teams, and strong understanding of data privacy, security, and ethical considerations related to AI.

Nice to Have

• Experience in BizOps, Data Science, Data Engineering, or Product Engineering roles focused on automation.
• Prior experience building or implementing AI agents or advanced workflow automation solutions.
• Active participation in the broader AI community, such as open-source contributions or conference presentations.

Pay Range: $217,900 - $217,900 CAD annual target. Full time offers also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits including medical, dental, and vision.
