Role Overview

We are looking for a Java Architect focused on Compliance systems to design and lead the architecture of backend services that support KYC, AML, transaction monitoring, regulatory reporting, and other compliance workflows. You will partner with compliance, product, security, and engineering teams to deliver robust, secure, and scalable solutions that meet regulatory and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Architecture leadership - Define and own the architecture for compliance platform components, ensuring scalability, reliability, and secure handling of sensitive data.
• System design - Design microservices, event-driven workflows, and data pipelines for KYC/AML, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, and reporting.
• Integration - Lead integrations with third-party compliance providers, data providers, and internal systems, ensuring robust, auditable interfaces.
• Security and compliance - Embed security best practices and data protection controls into designs, addressing encryption, key management, access control, and auditability.
• Performance and reliability - Ensure systems meet latency, throughput, and availability targets; design observability, alerting, and automated remediation patterns.
• Mentorship - Mentor engineers, lead design reviews, and drive engineering best practices for the compliance domain.
• Technical strategy - Advise product and compliance stakeholders on technical feasibility, trade-offs, and roadmap planning.

Requirements

• Extensive experience in backend architecture and engineering using Java and Spring Boot in production environments.
• Proven track record designing and delivering microservices, event-driven systems, and data pipelines.
• Strong cloud experience, for example AWS, and familiarity with containerization and orchestration such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Solid knowledge of Linux based systems, networking, and operational debugging.
• Experience with secure design patterns, encryption, secrets management, and access controls.
• Familiarity with compliance domain concepts such as KYC, AML, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, and regulatory reporting is highly desirable.
• Experience integrating with third-party providers, message systems, and building reliable ETL/streaming pipelines.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with compliance, security, and product stakeholders.

Nice to Have

• Experience with blockchain or crypto companies and understanding of on-chain data and transaction patterns.
• Experience with data stores and streaming platforms used in high-throughput environments.

Working Arrangement

Full-time role. Location: Remote (role may be aligned by region depending on team and regulatory needs). Specific expectations regarding remote or onsite presence will be confirmed during hiring.
