Overview
Join Coinbase's Compute team to build and operate the Kubernetes platform that serves as the primary compute orchestration infrastructure for services across the company. The team focuses on scalability, reliability, efficiency, and improving the developer and operational experience for running services on Kubernetes.
What you’ll be doing
- Build tooling and automation to make management of Kubernetes clusters reliable and easy.
- Create developer and operator tooling that improves the experience of using Kubernetes for service owners.
- Operationalize the Kubernetes platform to be automated and self healing, reducing on call burden and manual toil.
- Develop new Kubernetes capabilities for service teams, including job runners, cron support, advanced deployment strategies, EFS support, and automated rightsizing.
- Support internal customers who operate critical services on the Kubernetes platform.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with strong expertise in Kubernetes or similar orchestration systems such as Mesos or Nomad.
- Deep knowledge of cloud infrastructure on AWS and/or GCP and experience scaling backend infrastructure.
- Ability to build backend services in addition to infrastructure tooling, with a high bar for quality and strong problem solving skills.
- Experience identifying root causes, driving durable solutions, and balancing business needs with technical design.
Nice to have
- Experience with observability and monitoring systems like Datadog or Kibana.
- Familiarity with Ruby, Go, Docker, Terraform, and major cloud providers.
- Experience operating systems at high throughput and low latency, or in regulated environments.
- Contributions to internal docs, runbooks, or company facing technical content.
- Crypto domain familiarity, such as interacting with onchain systems or dApps.
Compensation
Pay Range: $211,650 - $249,000 USD, depending on work location. Full time offers may include target bonus, target equity, and benefits subject to jurisdiction and role specifics.
Work model
This role is remote eligible, and Coinbase is remote first but not remote only. Occasional in person participation at offsites and operational events is expected to support collaboration and incident response.
