As a Senior Data Scientist, you will help shape product and growth strategy by turning complex data into clear, actionable recommendations that drive measurable business impact.
Role summary
We are hiring Senior Data Scientists to partner with Product, Growth, Engineering, Design, and Business teams. You will lead advanced analytics, experimentation, and predictive modeling across company initiatives. You will design and run experiments, build statistical and machine learning models, mentor junior data staff, and help operationalize insights to influence roadmaps and strategic investments.
Primary responsibilities
- Apply quantitative analysis, advanced statistics, and machine learning to develop data driven strategies for product and growth initiatives.
- Proactively identify and test opportunities to improve product metrics, translate insights into recommendations, and influence product and business decisions.
- Design, run, and analyze experiments and A/B tests, including handling triggering, sample ratio checks, and subsegment analysis.
- Develop and implement advanced models and analysis techniques across multiple business units, and help scale best practices.
- Drive company wide data initiatives and shape the direction of analytics and insights used by senior leadership.
- Mentor and guide data scientists and analysts, and help maintain high quality for data science outputs across the organization.
- Communicate complex results clearly to nontechnical stakeholders and translate findings into actionable plans.
Technical requirements
- 5+ years of data science or analytics experience at a technology company, preferably SaaS or product focused.
- Strong expertise in experimentation and statistical analysis, including hypothesis testing, regression, time series, and resampling methods.
- Proficiency in Python and common data science libraries such as pandas, NumPy, scikit learn, Matplotlib, and Seaborn.
- Advanced SQL skills and fluency with distributed SQL engines like Hive, Presto, or Trino.
- Familiarity with big data ecosystems and tools such as Hadoop and Spark.
- Experience designing production ready models, communicating trade offs, and working with engineering teams to deploy solutions.
Nice to have
- Experience with causal inference techniques and experimentation frameworks at scale.
- Background in growth analytics, product experimentation, or building data platforms.
- Familiarity with modern data stacks and cloud platforms.
Compensation
Salary range: $90,000 - $160,000 USD. Automattic pays in local currency where applicable and final offers reflect experience, location, and potential impact.
