About the team

The CX Analytics Engineering team bridges data engineering, data science, and business analytics by building scalable data solutions that turn raw data into reliable, actionable insights. The team develops foundational data models, pipelines, and tools that serve as the single source of truth for analytics across Coinbase and empower stakeholders to make data driven decisions.

Role summary

As a Staff Analytics Engineer you will function as a force multiplier across Analytics and Operations, translating complex technical and operational requirements into consumable data products. You will design and maintain data models, ETL/ELT pipelines, dashboards, and internal frameworks to unlock business value at scale and improve CX outcomes.

What you’ll be doing

• Develop and maintain trusted data sources and foundational data models that serve as the single source of truth for analytics consumers.
• Translate business requirements into scalable data models, dashboards, and tools that deliver measurable outcomes.
• Build, maintain, and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines using modern tooling and best practices, ensuring data quality, reliability, and performance.
• Create abstractions and reusable components such as UDFs, Python packages, and internal data app frameworks to accelerate downstream teams.
• Collaborate closely with engineering, data science, product, and business teams to identify opportunities where data can drive product and operational improvements.
• Drive outcome focused solutions that balance speed and long term maintainability, and own the end to end delivery and operationalization of data products.
• Communicate findings and tradeoffs to technical and nontechnical stakeholders, and provide technical mentorship and leadership to peers.

Expectations and examples

• Rapidly develop subject matter expertise in business areas and data domains, understanding data flows end to end.
• Deliver first data pipelines and insights for new lines of business, partnering with Engineering and Product.
• Design new data models that enable downstream data science teams to perform experiments and analyses quickly.
• Combine engineering details of algorithmic systems with statistical and data expertise to improve product metrics.

What we look for in you

• Deep experience with data modeling best practices and designing modular, reusable data schemas.
• Advanced SQL skills for complex transformations and performance tuning.
• Intermediate to advanced Python for scripting, automation, and building scalable frameworks.
• Proven experience building and maintaining robust ETL/ELT pipelines and data platforms, using tools like dbt, Airflow, or equivalents.
• Proficiency in building polished dashboards and visualizations with Looker, Tableau, Superset, or Python visualization libraries.
• Familiarity with modern data lake and warehouse architectures such as Snowflake or Databricks.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, and the ability to translate technical work into business value.
• Experience working with sensitive PII and knowledge of data governance best practices is a plus.
• Expertise in prompt engineering and prompt design for LLMs to support internal data tools and workflows.

Bonus skills

• Experience with cloud platforms like AWS or Google Cloud.
• Familiarity with Docker or Kubernetes and modern development workflows such as CI/CD and Git.
• Background in statistics, experimentation frameworks, or building data apps internally.

Compensation

Pay Range: $207,000 - $244,100 USD, depending on work location and other factors. Full time offers include target bonus and benefits.

Work model and expectations

Coinbase is remote-first but not remote-only. Employees are expected to participate in in-person offsites and events periodically to foster alignment and collaboration. Specific work location and eligibility may affect compensation and employment terms.
