Backend Engineer, Growth & Engagement Team at Phantom

Role Overview

Phantom is seeking a Backend Engineer to join the Growth & Engagement team. You will build and operate backend systems that enable rapid experimentation, personalized engagement features, and scalable growth initiatives for Phantom's multi-chain self-custodial wallet. As a core member of the team, you will own services such as action cards, referral flows, push-notification pipelines, and onboarding enhancements to ensure features can be launched, measured, and iterated with minimal friction.

Key Responsibilities

• Experimentation Platform - Design, implement, and maintain a feature-flag and A/B testing framework that supports rapid launches, metric collection, and automated rollback of growth experiments.
• Service Development - Build and scale microservices for core growth features, including referral program APIs, action-card engine, and push-notification orchestration.
• Instrumentation & Analytics - Instrument services with real-time metrics, tracing, and logging. Collaborate with Data teams to ensure clean event schemas and actionable dashboards.
• Operational Excellence - Own on-call rotations for growth services, define SLAs, write incident response playbooks, and drive post-mortem actions.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration - Work closely with Product, Frontend, Design, and Analytics to translate growth hypotheses into backend solutions and remove technical blockers.
• Performance & Reliability - Ensure growth systems meet sub-100ms latency targets under load and maintain at least 99.9% uptime.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of backend experience - Proven success building large-scale, high-availability systems using Node.js and TypeScript or similar stacks.
• Framework experience - Experience with NestJS or comparable frameworks is preferred.
• Web3 and crypto knowledge - Familiarity with on-chain data, wallet integrations, or decentralized application patterns is strongly preferred.
• System design - Strong architecture skills with an ability to translate product requirements into scalable, maintainable solutions and make performance trade-offs.
• Leadership - Experience mentoring engineers, leading technical initiatives, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
