Role Overview

As Director of Product Design, you will report to the Head of Design and lead Phantom's product design function. You will shape design vision, elevate quality, grow and mentor the design team, and partner closely with Product, Engineering, and executive leadership to drive product outcomes across web and mobile platforms. This is an opportunity to lead design at a truly design-led company, influencing how millions of users encounter crypto for the first time.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic design leadership across product areas, aligning design work with Phantom's mission, product goals, and brand.
• Manage, mentor, and scale a high-performing team of product designers, fostering career growth and design excellence.
• Champion accessibility, simplicity, and consistency across platforms and user touchpoints.
• Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to shape roadmaps, define user journeys, and identify opportunities to improve retention and onboarding.
• Elevate and operate the design system and design processes to ensure quality, scalability, and efficient delivery.
• Represent design in executive reviews, company initiatives, and external engagements.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of product design experience, with proven leadership building and managing design teams.
• Track record of designing and shipping high-quality, mobile-first consumer products at scale.
• Demonstrated product judgment and strategic thinking, able to balance user needs with business goals.
• Extensive experience using data, user research, and experimentation to inform and validate design decisions.
• Deep understanding of design systems, interaction design, and visual storytelling.
• Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Capacity to be both strategic and hands-on when needed, mentoring designers at all levels.
• Experience in crypto, a crypto-native mindset, or demonstrated interest in decentralized ecosystems is highly valued.

Compensation and Benefits

The target base salary for this role ranges from $220,000 to $250,000 USD, plus equity and benefits. Exact compensation depends on experience, location, and interview outcomes. Phantom offers a generous benefits package including:
