Role Summary

We are hiring a Staff Backend Engineer to lead design and implementation of the backend services that power our Onboarding and Fiat OnRamp products and social features. You will architect high-volume, high-availability systems, contribute to technical direction, and mentor other engineers while working cross-functionally to deliver secure, reliable infrastructure for global users.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build scalable backend services and microservices using Node.js / NestJS for onboarding, fiat onramp, and social systems.
• Design systems for high availability, low latency, and strong fault tolerance running on Kubernetes and AWS.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and drive best practices for code quality, testing, and deployment.
• Collaborate with product, design, security, and other engineering teams to translate requirements into reliable backend solutions.
• Contribute to DevOps and infrastructure decisions including CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, logging, and observability.
• Implement robust authentication, authorization, and security controls suitable for regulated financial interactions.
• Lead initiatives to add multi-chain support and launch complementary infrastructure and products.
• Interface with end users and third-party developers to gather feedback and improve platform APIs and services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• 6+ years of full-time software engineering experience, with a proven track record building production-grade backend systems.
• Expert-level proficiency in Node.js and related backend frameworks, such as NestJS.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration, and familiarity with CI/CD, monitoring, and logging tooling.
• Strong systems design skills for building high-throughput, reliable services and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with authentication, security best practices, and operating in regulated or security-sensitive environments.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, and a passion for mentoring and team building.
• Nice-to-have: 1+ year working on blockchain-based products, familiarity with Solana or other chains, and prior experience in fintech or payments.

Compensation and Benefits

The target base salary for this role is between $200,000 and $250,000 USD, plus equity and benefits. Phantom provides a comprehensive benefits package and remote support including:
