Job Description

About Atticus

At any given time, 16 million Americans are experiencing a crisis that requires urgent help from the legal system or government. Atticus makes it easier for people in crisis to get life-changing aid. Over the last six years we have become a leading platform connecting people with disabilities to government benefits, and we also help victims of accidents, misconduct, and violence get compensation from insurance. To date we have helped thousands of people access more than $4B in aid, supported over 110,000 clients, and earned 13,000+ five-star reviews. We have raised more than $100 million from top VC firms including Fika, Forerunner, GV, and True Ventures, and closed our Series C in April 2025. Our team grew quickly last year and we expect to continue growing in 2025.

The Job

We are hiring a Client Associate on our Direct Representation team. This role combines traditional paralegal duties - building client relationships, managing caseloads, and collaborating with attorneys on strategy - with operator responsibilities at a fast-moving tech startup, such as creating client testimonials with Marketing, user testing tools for Product, and sharing learnings with Client Experience. This position offers exposure to both legal practice and business operations and is designed as a path to long-term roles at Atticus or to law or business school with strong mentorship and recommendations.

What You Will Do

  • Interview clients, analyze medical records, and draft persuasive memos explaining why the Social Security Administration should consider a client disabled.
  • Map the logic and questions behind government benefits applications, design client-friendly forms, and collect feedback to improve the experience.
  • Identify inefficient workflows that slow the team, scope improvements, secure buy-in, and execute process changes to increase operational efficiency.
  • Partner with attorneys, marketing, product, and client experience teams to improve outcomes for clients and streamline the case lifecycle.
  • Balance empathetic client communication with organized, attorney-facing documentation and case management.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in a professional role with substantial client-facing work (for example, case manager) or lawyer-facing work (for example, paralegal).
  • Resourceful team player who can thrive in a scrappy, fast-paced startup environment and learn quickly.
  • Strong academic record, with a degree from a top college or university preferred.
  • Comfortable across a range of interpersonal conversations - empathetic and kind with clients in crisis, organized and thoughtful with attorneys.
  • Demonstrated commitment to doing good and helping people.
  • Bonus: professional experience helping others apply for government benefits.
  • Bonus: experience working at a startup or other fast-paced, agile environment.

Compensation and Benefits

We offer competitive pay, equity, and generous benefits. We anticipate a base salary band for this role of $70,000 to $85,000, in addition to equity and benefits. Exact compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, and internal equity.

  • Medical and dental insurance with 100% of employee premiums covered.
  • 15 vacation days and approximately 19 paid holidays each year, including two weeks at the end of the year.
  • Free membership to OneMedical.
  • $600 per year reimbursable stipend for internet service.
  • $1,000 reimbursable stipend for education and training outside of work.
  • Up to $1,200 per year student loan repayment assistance.
  • 401(k) and optional HSA/FSA.
  • Equity participation.
  • Humble, thoughtful, smart, fun colleagues, and opportunities for retreats and offsites.

Location and Work Style

This job is fully remote. We are committed to empowering everyone with flexibility - live wherever and work remotely. You will travel to Los Angeles on the company dime as needed to meet colleagues, typically somewhere between quarterly and yearly. We value in-person gatherings for culture building, and we plan retreats and offsites thoughtfully.

We strongly encourage candidates from backgrounds underrepresented in tech or law to apply.
